I’m doing a creative practice PhD at Macquarie University exploring the use of personal narratives in radio documentaries. I’m interested in what the documentary process is like for both radio producers and their storytelling subjects, and how the relationship between the producer/storyteller and subject/storyteller shapes the documentary process.

As part of my research I’m doing a series of interviews with producers and people who have shared their story on the radio. Some of my early stage research findings are in an article I wrote for the RadioDoc Review.

The creative practice component of my PhD is a 2 part radio documentary about a murder that took place in the country town where I grew up. I went back to my home town and explored the impact this event had on my community and the families involved. The program was produced for ABC Radio National’s Earshot.
